(LPL) – Un hombre de unos 40 años murió este jueves después de ser baleado por un agente de seguridad tras ingresar armado al tribunal federal de Nashville e intentar disparar su pistola, informaron las autoridades.

El incidente ocurrió alrededor de las 9:30 a.m. en el Fred D. Thompson Federal Building & Courthouse, ubicado en 719 Church Street, en el centro de Nashville.

De acuerdo con la Policía Metropolitana de Nashville, el hombre sacó una pistola e intentó dispararla, pero el arma no funcionó. Después sacó un cuchillo, momento en que un agente de seguridad del tribunal abrió fuego contra él.

El hombre fue trasladado al Vanderbilt University Medical Center, donde posteriormente murió. Las autoridades señalaron que era de otro estado, aunque tenía vínculos con Nashville. Su identidad no ha sido revelada.

El hombre no logró pasar el punto de control de seguridad del edificio. Tras el tiroteo, agentes y perros policiales revisaron su vehículo, pero no encontraron nada considerado peligroso.

La Biblioteca Pública de Nashville, ubicada junto al tribunal, fue evacuada y permaneció cerrada durante el resto del jueves.

La Oficina de Investigación de Tennessee (TBI) asumirá la investigación del tiroteo, debido a que ocurrió en propiedad federal. Las autoridades aún investigan por qué el hombre acudió al tribunal.

Security officers shoot and kill man after he draws a weapon at federal courthouse

(LPL) – A man in his 40s died Thursday after being shot by a security officer; he had entered the federal courthouse in Nashville armed and attempted to fire his pistol, authorities reported.

The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. at the Fred D. Thompson Federal Building & Courthouse, located at 719 Church Street in downtown Nashville.

According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, the man drew a pistol and attempted to fire it, but the weapon malfunctioned. He then pulled out a knife, at which point a courthouse security officer opened fire on him.

The man was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he later died. Authorities stated that he was from out of state, though he had ties to Nashville. His identity has not been released.

The man did not make it past the building’s security checkpoint. Following the shooting, officers and police dogs searched his vehicle but found nothing considered dangerous.

The Nashville Public Library, located next to the courthouse, was evacuated and remained closed for the rest of the day.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) will lead the investigation into the shooting, as it took place on federal property. Authorities are still investigating why the man went to the courthouse.
