House Democrats Demand a Special Counsel to Investigate Ties Between Trump and Jeffrey Epstein
(LPL) – Democratic lawmakers on the House Judiciary Committee requested on Monday the formal appointment of an independent special counsel to investigate the relationship between U.S. President Donald Trump and the late, convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The request—made just eight days before the November 3 midterm elections—reopens scrutiny into allegations of sexual assault against the president, brought by women connected to the financier’s inner circle.
Representative Jamie Raskin, the ranking Democrat on the committee, directly accused the Department of Justice of stalling investigations to protect the president’s image.
Although the president eventually signed legislation requiring the release of relevant records—following months of resistance—and has consistently denied any involvement in child trafficking networks, the lawmakers argue that a special counsel is essential. They acknowledged, however, that it is highly unlikely their request will be granted by the Attorney General, Todd Blanche.
This move by the opposition intensifies political polarization in the final stretch of the legislative race, placing institutional transparency and the conduct of the Department of Justice at the heart of the national electoral debate.
«Five women have directly accused Trump of rape or sexual assault in the company or presence of Epstein. The Department of Justice is covering up crimes to protect the president,» stated Representative Jamie Raskin while presenting the Judiciary Committee’s demand.
This parliamentary initiative underscores the opposition’s deep distrust regarding the impartiality of high-ranking officials within the U.S. justice system.
The lawmakers question the leadership of the Department of Justice under Todd Blanche—formerly Trump’s personal attorney—suggesting that his presence compromises investigations into Epstein’s circle and his high-profile connections.
