Comunidad de Memphis alzó su voz por el asesinato de Renee Nicole Good

(LPL) – Una vigilia en honor a Renee Good se llevó a cabo la noche del jueves en Memphis, específicamente en las inmediaciones de Mendenhall Road, en la Iglesia Metodista Unida “El Redentor”, donde una gran multitud se reunió para expresar su apoyo y solidaridad. El evento forma parte de un creciente movimiento nacional en respaldo a Good y a los manifestantes en Minneapolis.

La vigilia fue organizada por los grupos MICAH, Free the 901 y Vecendarios 901, organizaciones que han manifestado su rechazo a la presencia del Servicio de Inmigración y Control de Aduanas (ICE) en Memphis y el condado de Shelby. La representante estatal Gabby Salinas expresó su preocupación a través de redes sociales: “Nuestro propio gobierno está atacando a nuestra comunidad y eso no está bien. Lo peor de todo es que cada día la violencia se pone peor. Esto está pasando en todos lados, están atacando a nuestros vecinos, a los miembros de nuestra comunidad”, indicó.

Por su parte, María Oceja, de Vecindarios901, calificó el hecho como un grave abuso de poder. “Es muy triste y lamentable lo que sucedió ayer en Minneapolis. Es un abuso de poder por parte de ICE y las otras agencias federales. Lo que le ocurrió a Renee Good fue un asesinato político, una intimidación a todos los observadores. Todos vieron en los videos que ella solo se iba a ir al momento que la mataron. Ya ni los mismos americanos tienen seguridad al momento de manifestar, imagínate nosotros los hispanos”, expresó.

En ciudades como Memphis, con una población inmigrante significativa, el caso de Renee Nicole Good ha profundizado el miedo y la desconfianza hacia las autoridades federales. (LPL) – A vigil in honor of Renee Good was held Thursday night in Memphis, specifically near Mendenhall Road, at the Redeemer United Methodist Church, where a large crowd gathered to express their support and solidarity. The vigil was organized by the groups MICAH, Free the 901, and Vecindarios 901, organizations that have expressed their rejection of the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Memphis and Shelby County. State Representative Gabby Salinas expressed her concern on social media: “Our own government is attacking our community, and that’s not right. The worst part is that the violence is getting worse every day. This is happening everywhere; they are attacking our neighbors, the members of our community,” she said.

For her part, María Oceja, from Vecindarios901, described the incident as a serious abuse of power. “What happened yesterday in Minneapolis is very sad and regrettable. It is an abuse of power by ICE and the other federal agencies. What happened to Renee Good was a political assassination, an intimidation of all observers. Everyone saw in the videos that she was just about to leave when they killed her. Not even Americans themselves feel safe when protesting anymore, imagine us Hispanics,” she said.

In cities like Memphis, with a significant immigrant population, the case of Renee Nicole Good has deepened fear and distrust of federal authorities. As investigations continue, the country faces growing social and political tension surrounding immigration, the right to protest, and the protection of human rights—a tension that, after this incident, seems far from subsiding.
