Diez muertos y 41 heridos dejó colisión entre tren y autobús en el Estado de México

(LPL/EN) – Diez personas murieron y 41 resultaron heridas este lunes tras colisión entre un tren y un autobús de pasajeros de dos pisos en la carretera federal Atlacomulco–Maravatío, en el Estado de México.

La información fue confirmada por el coordinador general de Protección Civil estatal, Adrián Hernández Romero, quien detalló que el accidente ocurrió en la zona industrial, cuando un autobús de la línea Herradura de Plata con 51 pasajeros fue embestido por el ferrocarril.

“Tenemos un total de 41 lesionados, de los cuales cuatro son de la primera prioridad, 16 de la segunda y 21 de la tercera prioridad (…) y tenemos un número de 10 decesos”, declaró Hernández al canal Milenio, tras los primeros reportes levantados por la Fiscalía General de Justicia del estado.

A su vez, informó que dos heridos fueron trasladados en helicópteros del grupo de rescate Relámpagos al hospital Adolfo López Mateos, en Toluca y que el resto de los lesionados permanece en hospitales de Atlacomulco, Ixtlahuaca y Jocotitlán.

Hernández confirmó también que las autoridades detuvieron al conductor del autobús y que el caso está bajo investigación.

La empresa ferroviaria Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) anunció que ya trabaja para liberar las vías y reanudar la circulación. A través de un comunicado, lamentó el accidente y acusó al chofer de haber intentado “ganarle el paso al tren”.
La compañía añadió que “las autoridades de protección civil municipal y de seguridad brindan apoyo para atender este triste hecho” y pidió a conductores y choferes respetar la señalización y detenerse por completo en los cruces ferroviarios.

Videos difundidos en redes sociales muestran a testigos auxiliando a los pasajeros atrapados. Algunos lograron salir por el techo del autobús, mientras otros recibieron ayuda tendidos en el pavimento.

Ten dead and 41 injured in train-bus collision in the State of Mexico

(LPL/EN) – Ten people died and 41 were injured this Monday after a collision between a train and a double-decker passenger bus on the Atlacomulco–Maravatío federal highway in the State of Mexico.

The information was confirmed by the general coordinator of state Civil Protection, Adrián Hernández Romero, who explained that the accident occurred in the industrial zone, when a Herradura de Plata bus carrying 51 passengers was struck by the railroad.

“We have a total of 41 injured, of which four are first-priority, 16 are second-priority, and 21 are third-priority (…) and we have a total of 10 deaths,” Hernández told Milenio television, following the initial reports from the state Attorney General’s Office.

The company reported that two injured people were transported by helicopter from the Relámpagos rescue group to the Adolfo López Mateos Hospital in Toluca, and that the rest of the injured remain in hospitals in Atlacomulco, Ixtlahuaca, and Jocotitlán.

Hernández also confirmed that authorities detained the bus driver and that the case is under investigation.

The Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) railway company announced that it is working to clear the tracks and resume traffic. In a statement, it expressed regret for the accident and accused the driver of trying to “outsmart the train.”
The company added that “municipal civil protection and security authorities are providing support to address this sad incident” and urged drivers to respect the signs and come to a complete stop at railroad crossings.

Videos posted on social media show witnesses helping the trapped passengers. Some managed to escape through the roof of the bus, while others were helped while lying on the pavement.
