Familia exige justicia tras brutal ataque de perros que dejó a madre de tres hijos en estado crítico

(LPL/WREG) -Una mujer de 35 años se encuentra en estado crítico en un hospital de Memphis luego de haber sido presuntamente atacada por una jauría de perros la semana pasada en Holly Springs, Mississippi, mientras su familia exige respuestas y una investigación completa sobre lo ocurrido.

De acuerdo con sus familiares, LaKesha Newsom fue atacada la mañana del martes pasado mientras caminaba por la carretera Highway 178 en Holly Springs. Tras el incidente, la mujer fue trasladada al hospital Regional One Health en Memphis, donde permanece en la unidad de cuidados intensivos.

Sus seres queridos aseguran que las lesiones son graves y que ha tenido que someterse a múltiples cirugías debido a las mordeduras. Según relató su tía, Jerlene Tyson, Newsom presenta heridas severas en ambos brazos, debajo de las axilas y en la parte posterior de su cuerpo.

“Fue atacada en la parte trasera de su cuerpo de una manera muy grave. Le han realizado varias cirugías esta semana”, explicó Tyson al canal de noticias WREG.

La familia sostiene que la mujer fue atacada por varios perros, pero afirma que aún existen muchas preguntas sin respuesta, especialmente sobre quiénes son los dueños de los animales y quién será responsabilizado por el ataque.

Además de las mordeduras, los familiares indicaron que Newsom presenta dos ojos morados, lo que ha generado dudas sobre si pudo haber ocurrido algo más durante el incidente.

“Tuvo que quedarse tirada durante horas antes de que alguien la ayudara”, agregó Tyson.

Por su parte, el Departamento de Policía de Holly Springs confirmó que existe un reporte del caso, aunque señaló que la investigación aún no ha sido completada.

En una actualización reciente, las autoridades informaron que no se reportaron testigos en la escena, pero que los investigadores entrevistaron a una persona de interés que podría ser el posible dueño de los perros y que podría estar relacionada con el ataque.

Mientras tanto, la familia de Newsom afirma que ha tenido dificultades para obtener información clara sobre el caso. Algunos de sus familiares incluso aseguran haber recibido versiones contradictorias sobre si los perros involucrados fueron o no asegurados por las autoridades.

“Solo queremos justicia para LaKesha. Ella tiene hijos. No merecía esto”, expresó uno de sus familiares.

Debido a la gravedad de sus heridas, la familia indicó que Newsom enfrenta un largo proceso de recuperación y que incluso existe el riesgo de que pueda perder varias extremidades.

According to relatives, LaKesha Newsom was attacked Tuesday morning while walking along Highway 178 in Holly Springs. After the incident, she was transported to Regional One Health in Memphis, where she remains in the intensive care unit.

Family members say her injuries are severe and that she has undergone multiple surgeries due to the dog bites. Her aunt, Jerlene Tyson, said Newsom suffered serious wounds to both arms, under her armpits, and to the back of her body.

“She was attacked in the back of her body in a very serious way. She has had several surgeries this week,” Tyson explained to the WREG news channel.

The family believes the woman was mauled by several dogs, but says many questions remain unanswered, particularly about who owns the animals and who will be held responsible for the attack.

In addition to the bite wounds, relatives say Newsom also has two black eyes, which has led them to question whether something else may have happened during the incident.

“She had to lie there for hours before anyone helped her,” Tyson added.

The Holly Springs Police Department confirmed there is a report related to the incident but said the investigation has not yet been completed.

In an update, police said there were no witnesses reported at the scene, but investigators have interviewed a person of interest believed to be a potential owner of the dogs who may be connected to the attack.

Meanwhile, Newsom’s family says they have had difficulty getting clear information about the case. Some relatives say they have received conflicting reports about whether the dogs involved were actually taken into custody by authorities.

The victim’s family is calling for justice and a thorough investigation to determine exactly what happened.

“We just want justice for LaKesha. She has children. She didn’t deserve this,” one relative said.

Because of the severity of her injuries, the family says Newsom faces a long recovery and may even be at risk of losing multiple limbs.
