Hallan más de 39 kilos de marihuana y ocho armas durante investigación policial en Memphis

(LPL/WREG) – Una investigación posterior a un tiroteo ocurrido a altas horas de la noche en la zona de High Point Terrace resultó en el descubrimiento de más de 39 kilos de marihuana y ocho armas, lo que deja a un hombre de Memphis enfrentando varios cargos, según la policía.

Los agentes informaron que fueron llamados a los Apartamentos Greenline, ubicados en la cuadra 300 de North Highland Street, alrededor de las 22:30 del 13 de enero, para una investigación del tiroteo.
Según la policía, nadie resultó herido, pero cuatro apartamentos fueron alcanzados por disparos y los agentes encontraron ocho casquillos percutidos. Los residentes afirmaron haber escuchado entre 20 y 30 disparos.
Mientras los agentes inspeccionaban el complejo, verificando a cada persona dentro de las unidades alcanzadas por disparos, encontraron varios agujeros de bala en una ventana lateral de un apartamento. La policía afirma que tocaron varias veces, mientras anunciaban “policía”, sin obtener respuesta. Los agentes en el lugar encontraron la puerta trasera abierta y, según la policía, entraron para realizar una comprobación de seguridad. Una vez dentro del apartamento, un hombre, posteriormente identificado como Dontario Woody, de 29 años, salió de una habitación trasera con las manos en alto, según la policía. Les dijo a los agentes que había estado dormido y que no abrió la puerta cuando llamaron.
Mientras los agentes desalojaban el apartamento, notaron un fuerte olor a marihuana y vieron una pistola en el suelo.
Detectives de la Unidad de Crimen Organizado obtuvieron una orden de registro y, durante el registro, los investigadores encontraron ocho armas y más de 38 kilos de marihuana.
Woody está acusado de tres cargos de posesión de arma de fuego, posesión de una sustancia controlada con intención de distribuirla y posesión de un arma mortal durante la comisión de un delito grave.

Según documentos judiciales, Woody se encuentra en libertad bajo fianza de 15.000 dólares y debe comparecer ante el tribunal el 20 de febrero.

Over 85 lbs marijuana, eight guns found during Memphis police investigation

(LPL/WREG) -A follow-up investigation into a late-night shooting in the High Point Terrace area resulted in the discovery of more than 85 pounds of marijuana, eight guns, and leaves a Memphis man facing several charges, police say.

Officers say they were called to the Greenline Apartments in the 300 block of North Highland Street around 10:30 p.m. on January 13 for a shooting investigation.
According to police, no one was injured, but four apartments had been hit by gunfire, and officers found eight spent shell casings. Residents said they heard 20 to 30 shots.
As officers were canvassing the complex, checking with each person inside the units hit by gunfire, they found several gunshot holes through a side window of an apartment. Police say they knocked several times, while announcing “police,” without receiving a response. Officers on the scene found the back door open and police say they entered to do a safety check.
Once inside the apartment a man, later identified as 29-year-old Dontario Woody, came out of a back room with his hands raised, police say. He told officers that he had been asleep and did not answer the door when they knocked.
While officers were clearing the apartment, they noticed a strong odor of marijuana and saw a gun on the floor.
A search warrant was obtained by detectives with the Organized Crime Unit and during the search investigators found eight guns and more than 85 pounds of marijuana.
Woody is charged with three counts of felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a dangerous felony.

According to court documents, Woody is out on a $15,000 bond and is scheduled to be in court on Feb. 20.
