Hombre hispano es acusado de golpear y dejar inconsciente a policía durante una parada de tráfico en Memphis

(LPL) – Un hombre fue arrestado y enfrenta varios cargos después de que, según la Policía de Memphis, agrediera a un agente durante una parada de tráfico y lo dejara temporalmente inconsciente.

De acuerdo con una declaración jurada citada por las autoridades, los agentes se encontraban de servicio cuando observaron un vehículo que no cedió el paso al salir de un estacionamiento en Raleigh-LaGrange Road.

Cuando los oficiales intentaron detener el automóvil, el conductor, identificado como Erik Salinas, salió del vehículo y comenzó a correr. Los agentes iniciaron una persecución a pie y, cuando estaban a punto de alcanzarlo, Salinas habría derribado a uno de los policías.

Según los documentos judiciales, el hombre se colocó encima del agente y comenzó a estrangularlo con una mano mientras lo golpeaba en la cabeza con la otra. La agresión provocó que el oficial perdiera temporalmente el conocimiento.

Hispanic man accused of striking and knocking out police officer during traffic stop in Memphis

(LPL) – A man was arrested and faces multiple charges after allegedly assaulting an officer during a traffic stop and temporarily knocking him unconscious, according to the Memphis Police Department.

According to an affidavit cited by authorities, officers were on duty when they observed a vehicle failing to yield the right-of-way while exiting a parking lot on Raleigh-LaGrange Road.

When officers attempted to stop the car, the driver—identified as Erik Salinas—exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers gave chase, and just as they were about to catch him, Salinas allegedly knocked one of the officers to the ground.

Court documents state that the man got on top of the officer and began strangling him with one hand while striking him on the head with the other. The assault caused the officer to temporarily lose consciousness.

Salinas was subsequently taken into custody. During the investigation, officers discovered a Glock pistol in the vehicle’s back seat.

The suspect faces charges of assaulting a law enforcement officer, evading arrest, and illegal possession of a firearm, according to records cited by Action News 5.

Authorities have not reported whether the officer sustained additional injuries from the assault, nor have further details been released regarding the circumstances that led to the pursuit.

The case remains under investigation, and the charges against Salinas will be resolved through the judicial system.
