Investigan presunta muerte durante operativo del “Memphis Safe Task Force en hotel de East Memphis

(LPL) – El Buró de Investigaciones de Tennessee (TBI) investiga una aparente muerte ocurrida la mañana de este martes durante un operativo de la Memphis Safe Task Force en un hotel del este de Memphis.

El incidente se registró en un hotel Extended Stay, ubicado sobre Poplar Avenue, cerca de Aaron Brenner Drive, donde una fuerte presencia de agentes federales, estatales y locales rodeó el edificio mientras se desarrollaba la investigación. Testigos reportaron la llegada de numerosas patrullas y vehículos de distintas agencias al lugar.

De acuerdo con el TBI, un agente de la Administración para el Control de Drogas (DEA), asignado a la Memphis Safe Task Force, estuvo involucrado en un incidente con disparos dentro del hotel. La agencia no ha confirmado oficialmente si la persona fallecida murió como consecuencia de esos disparos ni ha revelado las circunstancias que llevaron al uso de la fuerza.

Las autoridades tampoco han divulgado la identidad de la víctima ni han informado si se trataba de la persona que era buscada durante el operativo. Hasta el momento, únicamente indicaron que el caso permanece bajo investigación y que el TBI fue solicitado para realizar una investigación independiente, como ocurre en todos los incidentes que involucran a agentes del orden.

Durante varias horas, el hotel permaneció rodeado por agentes de la DEA, el Departamento de Policía de Memphis y otras corporaciones, mientras los investigadores procesaban la escena. Aunque el acceso al establecimiento estuvo restringido, las calles cercanas permanecieron abiertas al tránsito.

Este es el segundo incidente de alto perfil relacionado con la Memphis Safe Task Force en menos de una semana. El pasado 5 de julio, Tyrin Johnson, de 20 años, murió tras recibir disparos de miembros de la Guardia Nacional de Tennessee durante una persecución en el centro de Memphis. Ese caso también es investigado por el TBI y continúa generando cuestionamientos por parte de la familia de la víctima.

Investigation underway into apparent death during Memphis Safe Task Force operation at East Memphis hotel

(LPL) – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is investigating an apparent death that occurred Tuesday morning during an operation by the Memphis Safe Task Force at an East Memphis hotel.

The incident took place at an Extended Stay hotel on Poplar Avenue, near Aaron Brenner Drive, where a heavy presence of federal, state, and local agents surrounded the building while the investigation unfolded. Witnesses reported the arrival of numerous patrol cars and vehicles from various agencies at the scene.

According to the TBI, a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent assigned to the Memphis Safe Task Force was involved in a shooting incident inside the hotel. The agency has not officially confirmed whether the deceased died as a result of the gunfire, nor has it disclosed the circumstances that led to the use of force.

Authorities have not released the victim’s identity or stated whether the individual was the person being sought during the operation. So far, they have only indicated that the case remains under investigation and that the TBI was called in to conduct an independent inquiry, as is standard procedure for incidents involving law enforcement officers.

For several hours, the hotel remained surrounded by agents from the DEA, the Memphis Police Department, and other agencies while investigators processed the scene. Although access to the hotel itself was restricted, nearby streets remained open to traffic.

This is the second high-profile incident involving the Memphis Safe Task Force in less than a week. On July 5, 20-year-old Tyrin Johnson died after being shot by members of the Tennessee National Guard during a pursuit in downtown Memphis. That case is also being investigated by the TBI and continues to raise questions from the victim’s family.

As of Tuesday afternoon, authorities had not provided further details regarding the apparent death at the hotel or the circumstances that triggered the operation. The TBI is expected to release additional information as the investigation progresses.
