Memphis festeja su identidad con el “901 Weekend 2026”: más de 300 artistas se unen a la celebración

(LPL) – La ciudad de Memphis presentó la programación del “901 Weekend” 2026, una celebración dedicada a la cultura, la historia y el talento local que reunirá a más de 300 artistas, músicos, creativos y productores en diferentes escenarios del Downtown.

El concepto está relacionado directamente con el “901 Day”, que se celebra cada año el 1 de septiembre. La fecha juega con la numeración: 9/01, es decir, el noveno mes del año y el código de área telefónica 901, utilizado principalmente en Memphis y buena parte del oeste de Tennessee. Con el paso de los años, “901” se convirtió también en un símbolo de identidad y orgullo para los habitantes de Memphis.

La programación comenzará el viernes 28 de agosto con Trolley Night en South Main. Entre las actividades habrá un encuentro creativo en el Halloran Centre, de 5 a 7 p.m., y un concierto inaugural en el National Civil Rights Museum, de 7 a 10 p.m., con la participación de artistas como DJ Brilli, Lana J, Jad Tariq, Preauxx e Iris Collective. También habrá presentaciones de Shell on Wheels y actividades creativas en South Main.

El domingo 30 de agosto, Downtown Memphis será escenario de 901 on Beale, una jornada con música, cine, moda, danza, arte y actividades familiares.

Uno de los escenarios principales será el Ida B. Wells Music + More Stage, donde actuarán Play Your Park, Black Cream, Doll McCoy, John Williams A440 Band y Marcella Simien. También habrá apariciones de los Memphis Grizzlies y un espectáculo especial de cierre dedicado al legado de la música de Memphis.

Ese segmento incluirá una celebración de Tay Keith y un homenaje al reconocido músico y compositor David Porter, con la participación de Stax Music Academy, KIRBY y EJ Jones.

La programación también contempla gospel y danza en Handy Park, cine y actividades juveniles en el New Daisy Theatre, además de moda y entretenimiento en Rufus Row.

Para las familias, Cre8-N-Motion Zone ofrecerá actividades artísticas, murales, pintura facial, teatro y presentaciones culturales.

Finalmente, el martes 1 de septiembre se celebrará el 901 Day. La ciudad no organizará eventos oficiales, pero restaurantes, pequeños negocios, organizaciones culturales y vecindarios realizarán actividades propias para conmemorar la fecha.

El alcalde Paul Young señaló que el objetivo del fin de semana es reconocer el talento local y celebrar la influencia que la cultura de Memphis ha tenido dentro y fuera de la ciudad.

Memphis Celebrates Its Identity with “901 Weekend 2026”: Over 300 Artists Join the Celebration

(LPL) – The City of Memphis has unveiled the lineup for “901 Weekend 2026,” a celebration of local culture, history, and talent that will bring together more than 300 artists, musicians, creatives, and producers across various downtown venues.

The concept is directly linked to “901 Day,” celebrated annually on September 1st. The date plays on the numbers 9/01—representing the ninth month of the year and the 901 area code, which serves Memphis and much of West Tennessee. Over the years, “901” has also become a symbol of identity and pride for Memphis residents.

The festivities kick off on Friday, August 28, with Trolley Night in the South Main district. Activities include a creative gathering at the Halloran Centre (5–7 p.m.) and an opening concert at the National Civil Rights Museum (7–10 p.m.) featuring artists such as DJ Brilli, Lana J, Jad Tariq, Preauxx, and the Iris Collective. There will also be performances by Shell on Wheels and creative activities throughout South Main.

On Sunday, August 30, downtown Memphis will host “901 on Beale,” a day-long event featuring music, film, fashion, dance, art, and family-friendly activities.

One of the main venues will be the Ida B. Wells Music + More Stage, hosting performances by Play Your Park, Black Cream, Doll McCoy, the John Williams A440 Band, and Marcella Simien. The event will also feature appearances by the Memphis Grizzlies and a special closing show dedicated to the legacy of Memphis music.

This segment will include a celebration of Tay Keith and a tribute to renowned musician and songwriter David Porter, featuring the Stax Music Academy, KIRBY, and EJ Jones.

The schedule also includes gospel music and dance performances at Handy Park, film screenings and youth activities at the New Daisy Theatre, and fashion and entertainment at Rufus Row. For families, the Cre8-N-Motion Zone will offer art activities, murals, face painting, theater, and cultural performances.

Finally, “901 Day” will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 1. The city will not host official events, but restaurants, small businesses, cultural organizations, and neighborhoods will hold their own activities to mark the occasion.

Mayor Paul Young noted that the goal of the weekend is to recognize local talent and celebrate the influence Memphis culture has had both within and beyond the city.
