Padre es detenido frente a sus hijos pese a no ser el objetivo del operativo

(LPL) – La organización comunitaria Vecindarios901 denunció la detención de un padre de familia que, según afirman, fue arrestado por agentes federales pese a que no era la persona que las autoridades buscaban durante un operativo realizado la tarde del 11 de marzo en el vecindario de Nutbush, cerca de Chelsea Avenue.

De acuerdo con la organización, varias agencias federales llegaron alrededor de las 5:00 p.m. a la vivienda con una orden de arresto para un individuo que, según indicaron, ya no residía en ese domicilio. 

Vecindarios901 señaló que los hijos del hombre presenciaron la detención. La organización también indicó que la familia ya había enfrentado recientemente la muerte de la madre de los niños, por lo que el arresto del padre dejó a los menores en una situación particularmente difícil.

“Estos niños tuvieron que ser testigos de cómo se llevaban a su padre sin que fuera la persona que estaban buscando”, señaló la organización en su publicación en redes sociales.

María Oceja, integrante de Vecindarios901, criticó el operativo y aseguró que este tipo de acciones está teniendo un fuerte impacto en las familias inmigrantes de la ciudad.

“Como hemos visto desde el principio, estas agencias no están aquí para disminuir el crimen. Lo que estamos viendo es una práctica que está causando daño a nuestras comunidades. No se trata de reducir el crimen ni de dar seguridad”, afirmó Oceja.

El incidente ocurre en medio de una mayor presencia de agencias federales en Memphis tras la creación de la Memphis Safe Task Force, una iniciativa que reúne a varias agencias federales para coordinar operativos contra el crimen en la ciudad.

La Casa Blanca publicó recientemente en redes sociales que 806 inmigrantes indocumentados han sido removidos de Memphis como parte de las acciones federales vinculadas con esta estrategia de seguridad.

Mientras autoridades federales sostienen que estas operaciones buscan reducir el crimen y reforzar la seguridad pública, organizaciones comunitarias continúan expresando preocupación por el impacto que estos operativos están teniendo en familias inmigrantes de Memphis.

Father arrested in front of his children despite not being the target of the operation

Vecindarios901 noted that the man’s children witnessed the arrest. The organization also indicated that the family had recently faced the death of the children’s mother, so the father’s arrest left the children in a particularly difficult situation.

“These children had to witness their father being taken away, even though he wasn’t the person they were looking for,” the organization stated in its social media post.

María Oceja, a member of Vecindarios901, criticized the operation and asserted that this type of action is having a significant impact on immigrant families in the city.

“As we’ve seen from the beginning, these agencies aren’t here to reduce crime. What we’re seeing is a practice that is harming our communities. It’s not about reducing crime or providing security,” Oceja affirmed.

The incident occurs amid an increased presence of federal agencies in Memphis following the creation of the Memphis Safe Task Force, an initiative that brings together several federal agencies to coordinate anti-crime operations in the city.

The White House recently posted on social media that 806 undocumented immigrants have been removed from Memphis as part of federal actions related to this security strategy.
