Posible amenaza obligó a desviar ruta del avión presidencial de Petro en su regreso de España a Bogotá

(LPL/AFP) – El avión presidencial en el que viajaba la semana pasada el presidente de Colombia, Gustavo Petro, de regreso desde Sevilla (España), donde asistió a la IV Conferencia Internacional de la ONU, fue desviado tras detectarse una posible amenaza durante su aterrizaje en Bogotá.

“Nuestro presidente de la República, al ser también jefe de gobierno, el jefe de Estado y el comandante supremo de las Fuerzas Armadas pues de alguna manera se convierte en un objetivo militar para diferentes amenazas”, declaró a Caracol Radio este martes el ministro de Defensa, Pedro Sánchez.

El vuelo presidencial partió el miércoles 3 de julio desde Sevilla e hizo una parada programada en las Islas Canarias, según reportaron medios locales el lunes.

Sin embargo, una alerta de inteligencia advirtió que la aeronave estaba siendo rastreada desde Canarias, por lo que el avión fue redirigido a Pereira, capital del departamento de Risaralda, en el centro-oeste del país.
Sánchez explicó que desde su ministerio se ha “optado por tomar medidas de seguridad en todos los sentidos” y reforzado la seguridad de Petro, tanto alrededor de la Casa de Nariño, la sede presidencial, como en sus desplazamientos.
“Está totalmente garantizada la seguridad del presidente”, aseguró el ministro, quien insistió en que el mandatario siempre es un blanco potencial de amenazas.

Sánchez recordó los atentados que también enfrentaron los expresidentes Álvaro Uribe (2002-2010) e Iván Duque (2018-2022).

El titular de Defensa ya había anunciado la semana pasada que el gobierno incrementará las medidas de seguridad en torno a Petro debido a las “amenazas latentes” en su contra.

El ministro detalló que además del esquema de protección habitual que acompaña al mandatario en todo momento, se sumarán nuevos grupos de inteligencia, vigilancia y reacción.

En cada desplazamiento del presidente se desplegarán operativos de fuerzas especiales, se enviarán aeronaves de la Fuerza Aeroespacial Colombiana y se reforzarán los anillos de seguridad, agregó.

Estas medidas se toman en medio del deterioro de la situación de seguridad en el país, y un mes después del atentado contra el senador y aspirante presidencial Miguel Uribe Turbay, del partido de derecha Centro Democrático, quien fue baleado y gravemente herido el 7 de junio durante un acto de campaña en Bogotá, para las elecciones de 2026.

Possible Threat Forces Petro’s Presidential Plane to Divert on Return from Spain to Bogotá

(LPL/AFP) – The presidential plane carrying Colombian President Gustavo Petro last week, returning from Seville, Spain, where he attended the Fourth International UN Conference, was diverted after a possible threat was detected during its landing in Bogotá.

“Our President of the Republic, being also head of government, head of state, and supreme commander of the Armed Forces, in some ways becomes a military target for various threats,” Defense Minister Pedro Sánchez told Caracol Radio on Tuesday.

The presidential flight departed from Seville on Wednesday, July 3, and made a scheduled stop in the Canary Islands, according to local media reports on Monday.

However, an intelligence alert warned that the aircraft was being tracked from the Canary Islands, so the plane was redirected to Pereira, capital of the Risaralda department in the center-west of the country.

Sánchez explained that his ministry has “chosen to take security measures in every sense” and reinforced Petro’s security, both around the Casa de Nariño, the presidential headquarters, and during his travels.
“The president’s security is fully guaranteed,” the minister assured, insisting that the president is always a potential target of threats.

Sánchez recalled the attacks that former presidents Álvaro Uribe (2002-2010) and Iván Duque (2018-2022) also faced.

The defense minister had already announced last week that the government would increase security measures around Petro due to the “latent threats” against him.

The minister explained that in addition to the usual protection system that accompanies the president at all times, new intelligence, surveillance, and response teams will be added.

Special forces operations will be deployed during each of the president’s trips, Colombian Aerospace Force aircraft will be deployed, and security rings will be reinforced, he added.

These measures are being taken amid the deteriorating security situation in the country, and one month after the attack on senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay, of the right-wing Democratic Center party, who was shot and seriously wounded on June 7 during a campaign event in Bogotá for the 2026 elections.
