THP publicó un video para desmentir que un oficial haya atropellado a otro hombre durante la manifestación del pasado domingo en Memphis

(LPL) – La Patrulla de Caminos de Tennessee (THP, por sus siglas en inglés) respondió a un video viral que circula en redes sociales y que aparenta mostrar a un tropero golpeando a un manifestante durante una protesta anti-ICE realizada el pasado domingo en Memphis.

De acuerdo con THP, un nuevo video de la cámara del tablero del vehículo muestra el incidente desde la perspectiva del tropero y contradice las versiones difundidas en redes. La agencia afirmó que el tropero no atropelló ni lesionó a ninguna persona.

Según el comunicado oficial, el video “muestra claramente al individuo sujetándose de la parte frontal del vehículo del tropero, acostándose en el suelo, luego levantándose por su cuenta y retirándose del lugar sin asistencia”. THP aseguró que en ningún momento se observa que la persona haya sido atropellada o resultara herida.

Jason Pack, director de comunicaciones del Departamento de Seguridad y Seguridad Nacional de Tennessee, señaló que la prioridad de la corporación es siempre la seguridad pública, tanto de los automovilistas como de los manifestantes y los propios troperos. Añadió que ingresar a vías activas representa un riesgo grave e inmediato, y que los oficiales están entrenados para actuar con el fin de evitar lesiones o consecuencias más graves.

Durante las protestas en Summer Avenue, los troperos intervinieron luego de que manifestantes bloquearan el tráfico. En uno de los videos difundidos, se escucha a una persona ordenando a un manifestante que se retire de la vía mientras el vehículo intenta avanzar.

En hechos relacionados, una mujer de Cordova fue arrestada durante las protestas. Rebecca Leathers, de 55 años, enfrenta múltiples cargos, entre ellos conducta desordenada, resistencia al arresto, exhibicionismo indecente, vandalismo, agresión, agresión a un oficial y obstrucción de una vía pública. Un informe de arresto indica que Leathers golpeó repetidamente el vehículo de un oficial y lo confrontó verbalmente.

Leathers fue liberada posteriormente tras pagar una fianza de 500 dólares y tiene programada su comparecencia ante el tribunal este martes por la mañana. En otro video obtenido por FOX13, se observa a una mujer golpeando la ventana de una patrulla antes de ser detenida, mientras manifestantes rodeaban el vehículo y gritaban “¡déjenla ir!”.

THP reiteró que, pese a las narrativas difundidas en redes sociales, ningún tropero atropelló ni golpeó a manifestantes durante los incidentes registrados en Memphis.

(LPL) – The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) responded to a viral video circulating on social media that appears to show a trooper striking a protester during an anti-ICE protest held last Sunday in Memphis.

According to the THP, new dashcam video shows the incident from the trooper’s perspective and contradicts the versions circulating on social media. The agency stated that the trooper did not run over or injure anyone.

According to the official statement, the video “clearly shows the individual grabbing onto the front of the trooper’s vehicle, lying down on the ground, then getting up on their own and walking away without assistance.” The THP asserted that at no point is the person seen being run over or injured.

Jason Pack, director of communications for the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, noted that the agency’s priority is always public safety, for motorists, protesters, and the troopers themselves. He added that entering active roadways poses a serious and immediate risk, and that officers are trained to act to prevent injuries or more serious consequences.

During the protests on Summer Avenue, troopers intervened after protesters blocked traffic. In one of the videos released, a person can be heard ordering a protester to get out of the road while the vehicle attempts to move forward.

In related events, a woman from Cordova was arrested during the protests. Rebecca Leathers, 55, faces multiple charges, including disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, indecent exposure, vandalism, assault, assault on an officer, and obstruction of a public highway. An arrest report indicates that Leathers repeatedly struck an officer’s vehicle and verbally confronted him.

Leathers was later released after posting a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court this Tuesday morning. In another video obtained by FOX13, a woman is seen hitting the window of a patrol car before being arrested, while protesters surrounded the vehicle and shouted, “Let her go!”

The Tennessee Highway Patrol reiterated that, despite narratives circulating on social media, no trooper ran over or struck protesters during the incidents recorded in Memphis.
