Oregon school shooting leaves four dead, including three children, and two critically injured

(LPL) – Four people—including three children and a teacher—were killed during a shooting on Thursday at an elementary school in Bend, Oregon. The alleged attacker, a 16-year-old, also died, while two other people remain hospitalized in critical condition.

The attack took place at Silver Rail Elementary School, where authorities received the first emergency call at 12:59 p.m. on Thursday, October 15. According to the police, the incident began when an individual reported that a person armed with a long gun had fired at their vehicle near the school grounds.

Shortly thereafter, 911 dispatchers received multiple calls alerting them to the presence of a shooter inside the school.

Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz reported that the suspect gained entry to the building by firing at locked doors. The first officers arrived at approximately 1:02 p.m. and found the attacker dead inside the facility.

According to authorities, an individual who saw the teenager enter the school followed him inside and opened fire, bringing the attack to an end before officers arrived at the scene.

The three children who died were 5, 8, and 11 years old. Among those injured are a 7-year-old child and a 54-year-old teacher; both were transported to St. Charles Medical Center in critical condition.
