(LPL) – El presidente Donald Trump visitó Memphis este lunes 23 de marzo con el objetivo de resaltar los resultados de la denominada Memphis Safe Task Force, una iniciativa federal implementada en 2025 para combatir el crimen en la ciudad.

Durante una mesa redonda con autoridades y fuerzas del orden, Trump aseguró que la estrategia ha generado una reducción significativa de la criminalidad, citando miles de arrestos, armas ilegales decomisadas y personas desaparecidas localizadas. Según datos oficiales, el crimen ha disminuido de forma considerable desde la llegada del operativo federal.

En ese contexto, el mandatario fue más allá y lanzó una afirmación contundente: dijo que en un plazo de “dos o tres meses” la delincuencia en Memphis será prácticamente inexistente, destacando su confianza en el impacto de la presencia federal y de la Guardia Nacional en la ciudad.

Trump también aprovechó su visita para elogiar al estado de Tennessee y a su liderazgo político, especialmente al gobernador Bill Lee. Incluso, en tono relajado, comentó la posibilidad de mudarse al estado, lo que provocó reacciones entre los asistentes.

Por su parte, el gobernador Lee agradeció al presidente por su intervención en materia de seguridad y destacó los cambios observados en la ciudad. El mandatario estatal expresó optimismo sobre el rumbo de Memphis, señalando que espera que la tendencia positiva en la reducción del crimen continúe en los próximos meses.

La visita, sin embargo, también estuvo marcada por ausencias importantes. Ni el alcalde de Memphis, Paul Young, ni el alcalde del condado Shelby, Lee Harris, participaron en la reunión con el presidente, en medio de posturas divididas sobre la presencia federal y el uso de la Guardia Nacional en la ciudad.

Tras concluir la mesa redonda, Trump realizó una visita a Graceland, la emblemática residencia de Elvis Presley, como parte de su agenda en la ciudad.

During a roundtable discussion with officials and law enforcement, Trump asserted that the strategy has yielded a significant reduction in crime, citing thousands of arrests, seized illegal weapons, and located missing persons. According to official data, crime has decreased considerably since the arrival of the federal operation.

In this context, the President went a step further and made a bold claim: he stated that within a timeframe of “two or three months,” crime in Memphis would be practically nonexistent, underscoring his confidence in the impact of the federal presence and the National Guard within the city.

Trump also took the opportunity during his visit to praise the state of Tennessee and its political leadership, particularly Governor Bill Lee. In a relaxed tone, he even mused about the possibility of moving to the state—a remark that elicited reactions among those in attendance.
