(LPL) – Un presunto vendedor de drogas fue arrestado en el área de Whitehaven, en Memphis, luego de disparar contra un amigo durante la madrugada del jueves 26 de marzo, en un incidente que, según la policía, estuvo motivado por el temor del sospechoso a ser víctima de otro robo.

De acuerdo con el Departamento de Policía de Memphis, los hechos ocurrieron poco después de la 1:00 a.m. en una vivienda ubicada en la zona de Royal Oaks Drive, en el vecindario de Old Hickory Hills. Oficiales respondieron a un llamado por un tiroteo y, al llegar al lugar, encontraron a un hombre sentado en el porche delantero con una herida de bala.

La víctima relató a las autoridades que venía caminando desde una tienda en Winchester Road cuando decidió pasar a visitar a su amigo. Sin embargo, no le avisó previamente de su llegada. Al tocar la puerta de la vivienda, fue cuando recibió el disparo.

Según la investigación, el residente de la casa, identificado como Kordarius Owens, de 31 años, disparó a través de la puerta principal al escuchar los golpes, aparentemente al sentirse amenazado. Posteriormente, el propio Owens habría reconocido ante la policía que vende drogas y que se encontraba nervioso debido a que había sido víctima de un robo anteriormente.

Las autoridades indicaron que, tras el incidente, el sospechoso se disculpó con la víctima y preguntó por su estado de salud. El hombre herido fue trasladado al hospital Regional One en condición no crítica y se espera que sobreviva.

Owens fue detenido en el lugar y ahora enfrenta cargos por asalto agravado y posesión ilegal de un arma de fuego, al ser un delincuente convicto. Hasta el momento, no se ha informado sobre una fecha de audiencia ni se le ha fijado una fianza.

According to the Memphis Police Department, the incident occurred shortly after 1:00 a.m. at a residence located in the Royal Oaks Drive area, within the Old Hickory Hills neighborhood. Officers responded to a call regarding a shooting and, upon arriving at the scene, found a man sitting on the front porch with a gunshot wound.

The victim told authorities that he had been walking from a store on Winchester Road when he decided to stop by and visit his friend. However, he had not given him prior notice of his arrival. He was shot the moment he knocked on the door of the residence.

According to the investigation, the home’s resident—identified as 31-year-old Kordarius Owens—fired through the front door upon hearing the knocking, apparently feeling threatened. Subsequently, Owens reportedly admitted to police that he sells drugs and was on edge because he had been the victim of a robbery in the past.

Authorities indicated that, following the incident, the suspect apologized to the victim and asked about his condition. The injured man was transported to Regional One Hospital in non-critical condition and is expected to survive.

Owens was taken into custody at the scene and now faces charges of aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a firearm, as he is a convicted felon. As of now, no court hearing date has been announced, nor has bail been set.
