Matan al activista conservador Charlie Kirk de un disparo durante un evento en Utah

(LPL/UV) – Charlie Kirk, activista conservador y aliado del presidente Donald Trump, murió luego de recibir un disparo en un evento en el campus de la Universidad del Valle de Utah (UVU), informó su portavoz y confirmó el presidente Donald Trump en un mensaje en su red social Truth Social.

“El gran, e incluso legendario, Charlie Kirk ha muerto”, escribió el presidente en Truth Social. “Nadie comprendió ni tuvo el corazón de la juventud en Estados Unidos mejor que Charlie. Era querido y admirado por todos, especialmente por mí, y ahora ya no está con nosotros. Melania y yo enviamos nuestro más sentido pésame a su hermosa esposa Erika y a su familia. ¡Charlie, te queremos!”.
El gobernador de Utah, Spencer Cox, dijo que habló con el presidente Trump tras el suceso.

“En colaboración con el FBI y las fuerzas del orden de Utah, llevaremos ante la justicia al responsable de esta tragedia”, declaró.
El director del FBI, Kash Patel, dijo en X que un sospechoso había sido detenido tras varias horas en fuga, sin embargo, el gobernador de Utah dijo que se trataba de una “persona de interés”.

Cómo fue el atentado en el que murió Kirk

Poco después del ataque, la portavoz de la universidad, Ellen Treanor, declaró que Kirk fue impactado por las balas 20 minutos después de que comenzara a hablar en el campus.
Según Treanor, el equipo de seguridad de Kirk lo evacuó después del tiroteo.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox said he spoke with President Trump after the shooting.

“In collaboration with the FBI and Utah law enforcement, we will bring whoever is responsible for this tragedy to justice,” he declared.
FBI Director Kash Patel said on X that a suspect had been arrested after several hours on the run. However, the governor of Utah said he was a “person of interest.”

How Kirk was killed

Shortly after the attack, university spokesperson Ellen Treanor stated that Kirk was struck by bullets 20 minutes after he began speaking on campus.
According to Treanor, Kirk’s security team evacuated him after the shooting.

“We know that shots were fired from the rooftop of the Losee Center,” UVU said in a statement. “It appears someone was on the rooftop of that building or somewhere inside. We do not know if they have been detained,” read the statement reported by local media outlet The Salt Lake Tribune.

University officials announced that classes would be canceled this Wednesday.

Former Utah Republican Representative Jason Chaffetz witnessed the incident. “There were people there. And there were a lot of them. He came out, throwing hats, stirring up the crowd,” he told Fox News.

Answering one of the initial questions, Chaffetz said a single shot was heard. “I was looking at Charlie. I can’t say I saw blood. I can’t say I saw him get hit, but I did see him immediately fall backward onto his left side.”
