Mujer enfrenta cargos por intento de asesinato tras atropellar varias veces a su exnovio en el suroeste de Memphis

(LPL) – Una mujer de Memphis fue acusada de intento de asesinato en primer grado luego de que, según la policía, atropellara en repetidas ocasiones a su exnovio con una camioneta SUV tras no aceptar el fin de la relación. El incidente ocurrió el sábado por la mañana en el suroeste de la ciudad.

La Policía de Memphis respondió alrededor de las 11:30 a.m. a un llamado en la cuadra 500 de Gilleas Road, donde encontraron a un hombre gravemente herido y a un testigo, Carlos Brantley, quien realizó la llamada al 911.

Brantley relató que escuchó un alboroto fuera de su casa y, al salir, vio a su vecina, identificada como Tanieka Ray, conduciendo una SUV negra mientras gritaba a un hombre que se encontraba en el suelo. De acuerdo con su testimonio, Ray daba vueltas en U repetidamente en la calle y amenazaba con atropellar nuevamente a la víctima y matarlo.

El testigo explicó que el hombre, identificado como Arthur, estaba tirado en su entrada sin poder levantarse. Brantley intentó auxiliarlo y, junto con el hermano de la víctima, lo trasladó al porche de su casa para ponerlo a salvo, mientras Ray continuaba recorriendo la calle de manera agresiva. Durante ese tiempo, la mujer impactó un poste de servicios públicos, provocando un apagón en la zona, y luego huyó del lugar a pie.

Según los documentos policiales, la víctima le dijo a Brantley y posteriormente a los oficiales que Ray lo había atropellado y pasado por encima entre tres y cuatro veces con su vehículo. La policía presentó al testigo una rueda de reconocimiento con seis personas, en la que identificó a Ray como la agresora.

El hombre fue trasladado por el Departamento de Bomberos de Memphis al hospital inicialmente en condición no crítica, pero más tarde su estado fue actualizado a crítico. Sufrió múltiples fracturas y dislocaciones que requerirán cirugía, según los informes oficiales.

La víctima declaró a la policía que Ray, de 39 años, era su exnovia y que lo atropelló mientras él intentaba huir. Dijo que resbaló y cayó en el patio de un vecino, momento en el que ella lo embistió repetidamente con la SUV.

Horas después, alrededor de las 4:00 p.m., agentes localizaron a Ray en una vivienda en la cuadra 700 de East Davant Avenue, en el sur de Memphis. Fue detenida y trasladada a la estación de policía de Airways, donde decidió no dar declaraciones sin la presencia de un abogado.

Los registros judiciales indican que Ray ya había sido arrestada en septiembre de 2020 por cinco cargos de asalto agravado, luego de presuntamente disparar contra un grupo de personas en el sur de Memphis.

Ray fue acusada formalmente de intento criminal de asesinato en primer grado. Tras recibir autorización médica, fue ingresada en la cárcel Jail East, donde permanece detenida con una fianza fijada en 250,000 dólares.

Brantley señaló que, a su juicio, el ataque ocurrió porque la mujer no aceptó la ruptura de la relación. Según dijo, Ray intentaba retomar el vínculo, pero al ser rechazada, reaccionó de manera violenta.

Woman charged with attempted murder after running over ex-boyfriend following breakup in Southwest Memphis

(LPL) – A Memphis woman is facing a charge of attempted first-degree murder after police say she repeatedly ran over her ex-boyfriend with an SUV because she did not take the end of their relationship well. The incident happened Saturday morning in Southwest Memphis.

Memphis Police were called around 11:30 a.m. to the 500 block of Gilleas Road, where they found a man seriously injured and a witness, Carlos Brantley, who had called 911.

Brantley told police he heard a disturbance outside his home and saw his neighbor, identified as Tanieka Ray, driving a black SUV while yelling at a man who was lying on the ground. According to his statement, Ray made repeated U-turns on the street and threatened to run the man over again, saying she was going to kill him.

The witness said the victim, identified as Arthur, was lying in his driveway unable to get up. Brantley tried to help him and, along with the victim’s brother, moved him onto the porch to get him out of danger while Ray continued driving aggressively up and down the street. During that time, Ray struck a utility pole, causing a power outage in the area, and then fled the scene on foot.

According to police records, the victim told Brantley and later officers that Ray hit him with her SUV and ran over him three to four times. Police showed Brantley a six-person lineup, and he identified Ray as the woman he saw.

The man was taken to the hospital by the Memphis Fire Department in non-critical condition, but his status was later upgraded to critical. Police say he suffered multiple broken bones and dislocations that will require surgery.

The victim told officers that Ray, 39, is his ex-girlfriend and that she struck him with her SUV as he tried to run away. He said he slipped and fell in a neighbor’s yard, and while he was on the ground, Ray repeatedly ran over him.

Around 4 p.m., officers located Ray outside a home in the 700 block of East Davant Avenue in South Memphis. She was taken into custody and transported to the Airways police station, where she declined to give a statement without an attorney present.

Court records show Ray was previously arrested in September 2020 on five counts of aggravated assault after police said she fired a gun at a group of people in South Memphis.

Ray has been charged with criminal attempted first-degree murder. After being taken to the hospital for medical clearance, she was booked into Jail East, where she is being held on a $250,000 bond.

Brantley said he believes the attack happened because Ray did not accept the breakup. He told reporters she wanted to get back together, and when the victim refused, she became violent.
