Hombre muere baleado luego de estacionarse por error en una casa ajena

(LPL/WREG) – Un hombre murió tras ser baleado luego de que él y una mujer ingresaran por error a la entrada de una vivienda en el área de Frayser, durante la madrugada del viernes, informaron autoridades de Memphis.

De acuerdo con la Policía de Memphis, el incidente ocurrió alrededor de las 4:50 a.m., mientras oficiales respondían a una llamada de alarma en la escuela Libertas. Durante esa intervención, los agentes escucharon una discusión seguida de disparos en las cercanías.

Los oficiales se dirigieron al área de North Trezevant Street y Point Church Avenue, donde encontraron a un hombre, identificado posteriormente como Tommy Lee Applewhite, aún armado. La policía le ordenó verbalmente que soltara el arma. Applewhite caminó hacia la puerta de su casa afirmando que se trataba de su propiedad y lanzó el arma en el marco de la puerta de su residencia en Trezevant Street.

En el lugar, los agentes hallaron a Rodgriguez Poplar tendido en la entrada de autos de la vivienda, con una herida de bala en el abdomen. Una mujer que se encontraba dentro de un vehículo estacionado en la propiedad explicó a la policía que ambos ingresaron a la entrada de la casa porque uno de los faros del automóvil estaba dañado.

Según su testimonio, Applewhite salió de la vivienda visiblemente molesto y les exigió que se retiraran. La mujer intentó calmar la situación explicándole el problema del vehículo, mientras Poplar descendió del auto con la intención de tranquilizar al propietario. En ese momento, Applewhite le disparó a Poplar en el estómago.

La mujer también indicó que, tras el disparo, Applewhite le apuntó con el arma y le dijo: “Tú sigues”.

Poplar fue trasladado al hospital en estado crítico, donde posteriormente falleció.

Applewhite enfrenta múltiples cargos, entre ellos asesinato en segundo grado, agresión agravada, posesión ilegal de un arma de fuego como convicto y uso de un arma durante la comisión de un delito peligroso. De acuerdo con la policía, el acusado declaró que no llamó a las autoridades y que actuó por su cuenta porque consideraba a Poplar una amenaza.

Applewhite permanece detenido sin derecho a fianza.

Man dies after being shot for mistakenly parking at someone else’s house

(LPL/WREG) – Police say a man was shot and killed after he and a woman pulled into a stranger’s driveway in the Frayser area early Friday morning.

Just before 4:50 a.m., officers responded to an alarm call at Libertas School. While handling that call, officers heard arguing in the area followed by gunshots.

Authorities then went to the area of North Trezevant Street and Point Church Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a man later identified as Tommy Lee Applewhite still holding a gun. Police gave him verbal commands to drop the weapon. According to officers, Applewhite walked toward the door of his home, said, “This is my house,” and tossed the gun into the door frame of his residence on Trezevant Street.

Officers found Rodgriguez Poplar lying in the driveway with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Police said a woman who was inside a vehicle parked at the home told them she and Poplar pulled into the driveway because one of the car’s headlights was broken.

The woman said Applewhite came out of the house and angrily told them to leave the property. She tried to calm the situation by explaining the headlight issue, while Poplar got out of the vehicle to try to de-escalate the confrontation. That is when Applewhite shot Poplar in the stomach.

The woman also told police that after shooting Poplar, Applewhite pointed the gun at her and said, “You’re next.”

Poplar was transported to the hospital in critical condition and later died.

Applewhite was charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.

According to police, Applewhite stated that he did not call authorities to remove Booker and Rodgriguez from his yard and that he acted on his own because he believed Rodgriguez was a bully.

Applewhite is being held without bond.
