Bebé de 19 meses sobrevive a una caída de un auto en movimiento; la madre, una mujer hispana, fue arrestada

(LPL) – Un bebé de 19 meses sobrevivió de manera casi milagrosa luego de caer desde un vehículo en movimiento y quedar a segundos de ser atropellado, en un impactante incidente ocurrido en el sur de California y que quedó captado en video.

El Departamento de Policía de Fullerton informó que Jacqueline Hernandez, de 35 años y residente de La Habra, fue arrestada bajo sospecha de abuso infantil grave tras el incidente, ocurrido el pasado 20 de enero, entre las 8:00 y 9:00 de la mañana, en la intersección de North Euclid Street y West Malvern Avenue. Las autoridades señalaron que no recibieron el reporte de inmediato y que el caso salió a la luz varios días después, cuando un testigo se presentó el 24 de enero para denunciar lo ocurrido y entregar el video del momento.

Las imágenes muestran cómo un SUV negro realiza un giro en la intersección cuando, repentinamente, la puerta del pasajero delantero se abre y el pequeño cae directamente al asfalto, quedando en medio de la vía. El video evidencia que el bebé estuvo a punto de ser atropellado tanto por el mismo vehículo del que cayó como por otro automóvil de color claro que circulaba detrás. El conductor de ese segundo auto frenó de manera brusca, mientras que un tercer vehículo tuvo que desviarse para evitar una colisión.

En el video también se observa cómo la conductora detiene el SUV, baja rápidamente, recoge al bebé del pavimento y regresa al asiento del conductor antes de abandonar el lugar.

Según la policía, el testigo logró proporcionar información clave para identificar el vehículo. Tras una investigación, los oficiales localizaron el SUV, al bebé y a la mujer involucrada en una residencia en la ciudad de La Habra.

Las autoridades confirmaron que el menor sufrió lesiones compatibles con la caída, por lo que fue trasladado a un hospital del área para recibir atención médica. Afortunadamente, se informó que se espera que el bebé se recupere por completo, un desenlace que las autoridades califican como extraordinario dadas las circunstancias del incidente.

Hasta el momento, no se ha informado si Hernandez cuenta con representación legal.

El caso ha reavivado la atención sobre las leyes de seguridad infantil en vehículos. En California, los niños menores de 2 años deben viajar obligatoriamente en un asiento de seguridad orientado hacia atrás, a menos que superen las 40 libras de peso o las 40 pulgadas de estatura, y siempre deben ir correctamente asegurados de acuerdo con las especificaciones del fabricante. Además, los niños deben viajar en el asiento trasero del vehículo hasta los 8 años de edad.

Las autoridades continúan investigando las circunstancias que llevaron a este incidente que, pese a su gravedad, no terminó en tragedia gracias a una cadena de reacciones rápidas y a lo que muchos consideran un verdadero milagro.

(LPL) – A 19-month-old baby miraculously survived after falling from a moving vehicle and coming within seconds of being run over in a shocking incident captured on video in Southern California.

The Fullerton Police Department reported that Jacqueline Hernandez, 35, of La Habra, was arrested on suspicion of felony child abuse following the incident, which occurred on January 20 between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. at the intersection of North Euclid Street and West Malvern Avenue. Authorities said the incident was not immediately reported and only came to light several days later, on January 24, when a witness came forward and provided video footage of what happened.

The video shows a black SUV making a turn at the intersection when, suddenly, the front passenger door opens and the toddler falls onto the pavement, landing in the middle of the roadway. The footage reveals that the child narrowly avoided being run over by both the SUV from which they fell and a light-colored vehicle traveling behind it. The driver of the second car slammed on the brakes, while a third vehicle swerved to avoid a collision.

The video also shows the driver abruptly stopping the SUV, jumping out, picking the baby up from the roadway, returning to the driver’s seat, and then leaving the scene.

According to police, the witness was able to provide key identifying information about the vehicle involved. Following an investigation, officers located the SUV, the child, and the woman seen in the video at a residence in the city of La Habra.

Authorities confirmed that the child sustained injuries consistent with the fall and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Fortunately, officials said the baby is expected to make a full recovery, an outcome considered extraordinary given the severity of the incident.

It is not yet known whether Hernandez has retained legal representation.

The case has renewed attention on child passenger safety laws. In California, children under the age of 2 must ride in a rear-facing car seat unless they weigh at least 40 pounds or are 40 inches tall, and must always be properly secured according to the car seat manufacturer’s guidelines. Children are also required to ride in the back seat of a vehicle until the age of 8.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, which, despite its seriousness, did not end in tragedy thanks to quick reactions and what many consider a true miracle.
