(LPL/EN) – El gobierno de Estados Unidos anunció que incrementará de 1.000 a 2.600 dólares el incentivo económico para que migrantes en situación irregular abandonen el país de forma voluntaria, en un programa que denomina “autodeportación”.
En un comunicado, el Departamento de Seguridad Nacional (DHS) presentó el aumento como un “regalo” conmemorativo del primer año de la presidencia de Donald Trump. La agencia afirmó que, desde enero de 2025, 2,2 millones de personas se han acogido a este programa y que “decenas de miles” lo hicieron mediante la aplicación de la CBP.
No obstante, estas cifras oficiales han sido puestas en duda por expertos y análisis independientes, que señalan la falta de datos desglosados que las sustenten. El mismo escepticismo rodea las cifras de deportaciones.
Mientras el DHS reportó en diciembre un total de 622.000 deportaciones desde la llegada de Trump, un análisis reciente del centro de estudios Brookings calcula que el número real sería significativamente menor: entre 310.000 y 350.000 expulsiones.

Esta estimación no solo queda por debajo de las 778.000 repatriaciones del último año fiscal completo de Joe Biden, sino que también dista de la meta anunciada por el equipo Trump de alcanzar un millón de deportaciones anuales.

US increases incentive to $2,600 for migrants to voluntarily leave the country

(LPL/EN) – The US government announced that it will increase the financial incentive for undocumented migrants to voluntarily leave the country from $1,000 to $2,600, in a program it calls “self-deportation.”
In a statement, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) presented the increase as a “gift” commemorating the first year of Donald Trump’s presidency. The agency stated that since January 2025, 2.2 million people have participated in this program and that “tens of thousands” did so through the CBP application.
However, these official figures have been questioned by experts and independent analyses, which point to the lack of disaggregated data to support them. The same skepticism surrounds the deportation figures.
While the DHS reported in December a total of 622,000 deportations since Trump took office, a recent analysis by the Brookings Institution estimates that the actual number would be significantly lower: between 310,000 and 350,000 expulsions.

This estimate not only falls short of the 778,000 repatriations during Joe Biden’s last full fiscal year, but also falls far short of the goal announced by the Trump team of reaching one million deportations annually.
