Hombre hispano recibe 60 años de prisión por prender fuego a varias personas, matando a dos de ellas

(LPL/WLBT3) – Un hombre hispano del condado de Hinds ha sido sentenciado a 60 años de prisión tras rociar a sus compañeros de piso con gasolina y prenderles fuego, matando a dos de ellos en 2023.

El fiscal de distrito del condado de Hinds, Jody E. Owens II, anunció que Marcos Uriel Lara Pérez, de 33 años, fue declarado culpable de dos cargos de asesinato en segundo grado.

El Domingo de Pascua de 2023, Pérez incendió intencionadamente la casa que compartía con otros inquilinos en la cuadra 700 de Gary Drive, tras una pelea.

Durante el ataque, Pérez roció a varias víctimas con gasolina y encendió un mechero BIC, provocando que la estructura se viera completamente envuelta en llamas.

Los bomberos registraron la vivienda y encontraron los restos de Filibert Torres, de 77 años, en la parte sur de la casa.

Las víctimas que sobrevivieron, desde el hospital, informaron a los detectives que el incendio no fue accidental y que había sido provocado deliberadamente por Pérez.

Dos días después, el 11 de abril de 2023, las autoridades fueron notificadas de que una segunda víctima, José Thomas Segura Juárez, de 45 años, había fallecido a causa de sus heridas.

(LPL/WLBT3) – A Hinds County man has been sentenced to 60 years behind bars after dousing his roommates in gasoline and setting them on fire, killing two of them in 2023.

Hinds County District Attorney Jody E. Owens, II, announced that 33-year-old Marcos Uriel Lara Perez has been found guilty on two counts of second-degree.

On Easter Sunday of 2023, Perez intentionally set fire to the home he shared with other tenants on the 700 block of Gary Drive after a physical altercation.

During the attack, Perez doused multiple victims with gasoline and ignited a BIC lighter, causing the structure to become fully engulfed in flames.

Fire personnel searched and found the remains of 77-year-old Filibert Torres in the south portion of the home.

Surviving victims at the hospital informed detectives that the fire was not accidental and had been deliberately set by Perez.

Two days later, on April 11, 2023, authorities were notified that a second victim, 45-year-old Jose Thomas Segura Juarez, had died from his injuries.
