Joven hispano de Memphis muere en tiroteo en Nashville tras disputa por tarifa de bici taxi

(LPL) – Las autoridades de Nashville investigan un tiroteo mortal ocurrido la madrugada del sábado que dejó sin vida a Adrián Rivas Romo, un joven de 23 años originario de Memphis. El hecho ocurrió alrededor de las 2:20 a.m. en Rep. John Lewis Way South, frente al BetMGM Sports Lounge, tras una discusión relacionada con el costo de un viaje en bici taxi.

De acuerdo con la Policía Metropolitana de Nashville, Rivas Romo y sus amigos habían contratado dos bici taxis para regresar a su hotel desde la 2nd Avenue. Durante el trayecto, uno de los pasajeros discutió con un conductor por la tarifa, lo que llevó a ambos bici taxis a detenerse cerca del Bridgestone Arena.

El conductor de uno de los vehículos, identificado como Christopher Jones, de 21 años, dijo a los investigadores que pidió al grupo bajarse y se negó a continuar el viaje. Poco después se desató una pelea. Jones declaró que fue golpeado en la parte posterior de la cabeza por uno de los amigos de Rivas-Romo, tras lo cual sacó su arma.

Según el testimonio del conductor, Rivas Romo “se le acercó rápidamente”, por lo que disparó. La víctima fue trasladada a un hospital, donde falleció más tarde.

Jones llamó al 911 y permaneció en el lugar, donde fue detenido tras identificarse como el autor del disparo. Su pistola fue confiscada como evidencia.

Los detectives de homicidios continúan investigando el caso y trabajan junto a la Fiscalía del Distrito para determinar si se presentarán cargos, mientras analizan la versión del conductor que alega legítima defensa.

Hispanic man from Memphis killed in Nashville shooting after dispute over pedicab fare

(LPL) – Authorities in Nashville are investigating a deadly shooting that left Adrián Rivas-Romo, a 23-year-old man from Memphis, dead early Saturday morning. The incident happened around 2:20 a.m. on Rep. John Lewis Way South, outside the BetMGM Sports Lounge, following an argument over a pedicab fare.

According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police, Rivas-Romo and his friends had hired two pedicabs to take them from 2nd Avenue back to their hotel. During the ride, one passenger argued with a driver about the price, leading both pedicabs to stop near the Bridgestone Arena.

One of the drivers, identified as Christopher Jones, 21, told investigators that he ordered the group to get out and refused to continue the ride. A fight then broke out. Jones claimed he was punched in the back of the head by one of Rivas-Romo’s friends, prompting him to pull out his gun.

According to Jones, Rivas-Romo “came toward him quickly,” and he fired. The victim was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Jones called 911 and stayed at the scene, where he was detained after identifying himself as the shooter. His firearm was recovered as evidence.

Homicide detectives are continuing to investigate the incident and are working with the District Attorney’s Office to determine whether charges will be filed, as they review Jones’s claim of self-defense.
