(LPL/EN) – Las autoridades de Estados Unidos arrestaron a “más de 300.000 migrantes” en situación irregular durante los primeros seis meses del mandato de Donald Trump, informó la Casa Blanca el martes.

Desde su regreso al poder en enero, el presidente republicano implementó una política migratoria estricta, realizando redadas en tribunales, hogares y lugares de trabajo, lo que ha provocado protestas.
Algunas organizaciones denuncian las condiciones en los centros de detención migratoria. En un informe, Human Rights Watch (HRW) describe celdas superpobladas y migrantes durmiendo en el suelo bajo luces de neón encendidas día y noche, sin acceso a higiene básica.

Durante una rueda de prensa en la Casa Blanca, la portavoz Karoline Leavitt destacó las cifras.

“Más de 300.000 criminales inmigrantes ilegales han sido arrestados en el interior de nuestro país en los primeros seis meses de esta administración”, afirmó.
Y agregó: “Casi 70% de estos arrestos son delincuentes extranjeros con cargos penales o condenas previas”.

Leavitt también resaltó la reducción de cruces ilegales en la frontera con Estados Unidos.
En julio, “los cruces ilegales han vuelto a caer a mínimos históricos”, dijo.

Según datos de la Oficina de Aduanas y Patrulla Fronteriza (CBP), las autoridades reportaron “24.628 interceptaciones en todo el país”.

En la frontera con México se registraron “4.601” cruces ilegales, 24% menos que el mínimo histórico de junio (6.070) y 92% menos que en julio de 2024 (56.400).

La secretaria de Seguridad Interior, Kristi Noem, subrayó: “Se hizo historia otra vez. Las cifras no mienten: esta es la frontera más segura que jamás ha existido”, según comunicado de la CBP.
