Según el Departamento de Policía de Memphis (MPD), los oficiales respondieron poco antes de la medianoche a una llamada por asalto agravado en los apartamentos Legacy of Lynnfield, ubicados en el bloque 1300 de Greentree Valley Court, cerca del Hospital St. Francis. Al llegar, un padre les informó que había escuchado a sus dos hijos discutiendo por comida y que, aproximadamente cinco minutos después, oyó un disparo.
El hombre relató que uno de sus hijos gritó: “¡Me disparó!”, por lo que entró al apartamento y encontró a su hijo mayor tirado en el suelo de una habitación con una herida de bala en el estómago. La víctima, de 20 años, fue trasladada de urgencia a Regional One Health, donde permanece en condición crítica.
De acuerdo con la policía, el propio herido dijo a los oficiales que su hermano menor le disparó porque “se había comido su comida”. El adolescente de 16 años, por su parte, declaró que el disparo fue accidental y que estaba jugando con una pistola dentro del cuarto cuando el arma se accionó. También dijo que había obtenido el arma de un amigo.
El menor fue detenido en el lugar y posteriormente acusado de asalto agravado y posesión ilegal de un arma. Actualmente se encuentra bajo custodia.
El caso ha causado asombro por las circunstancias del tiroteo, que surgió de una discusión doméstica aparentemente trivial y terminó con un joven gravemente herido y otro enfrentando cargos criminales serios. Las autoridades continúan investigando cómo el arma llegó a manos del adolescente.

Teen Shoots Brother After Argument Over Food in East Memphis
(LPL) – A family argument turned into a shocking and violent incident Sunday night in East Memphis, when a 16-year-old teenager allegedly shot his own brother following a dispute over food.
According to the Memphis Police Department (MPD), officers responded just before midnight to a call for an aggravated assault at the Legacy of Lynnfield Apartments in the 1300 block of Greentree Valley Court, near St. Francis Hospital. Upon arrival, a father told officers he had heard his two sons arguing over food and, about five minutes later, heard a gunshot.
The father said one of his sons yelled, “He shot me.” Officers entered the apartment and found the older brother lying on the bedroom floor with a gunshot wound to his stomach. The victim, a 20-year-old man, was rushed to Regional One Health, where he remains in critical condition.
Police said the victim told them his younger brother shot him because he had eaten his food. The 16-year-old suspect claimed the shooting was accidental, telling officers he was playing with a handgun inside the room when it went off. He also said he had obtained the gun from a friend.
The teen was taken into custody at the scene and charged with aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon. He remains in jail.
The incident has caused shock due to its circumstances, as what began as a seemingly minor domestic dispute escalated into a shooting that left one brother critically injured and the other facing serious criminal charges. Authorities continue to investigate how the teenager gained access to the firearm.
