Al menos 13 muertos y 98 heridos por descarrilamiento del tren Interoceánico en México

(LPL/EN) – Al menos 13 personas fallecieron y 98 resultaron lesionadas, 36 de ellas hospitalizadas y 5 de gravedad, debido al descarrilamiento del tren Transístmico, parte del Corredor Interoceánico del Istmo de Tehuantepec (CIIT), en el sur de México, que conecta los océanos Atlántico y Pacífico, informó este domingo la Secretaría de Marina (Semar).
“Derivado de este accidente 139 personas se encuentran fuera de peligro, 98 lesionadas, de las cuales 36 se encuentran recibiendo atención médica hospitalaria y el resto se encuentran sin lesiones de gravedad, y lamentablemente 13 personas perdieron la vida”, indicó la Semar en un comunicado.
La dependencia expresa sus condolencias a los familiares de las personas que perdieron la vida en este lamentable accidente y reafirmó su compromiso de atender el caso con la máxima responsabilidad, transparencia y apego a la ley, brindando apoyo inmediato a los afectados.

También explicó que durante las acciones de búsqueda y localización de las personas, desplegó un total de 360 agentes navales, 20 vehículos, 4 ambulancias terrestres, 3 ambulancias aéreas y un dron táctico.

Previamente la institución había contabilizado 20 personas lesionadas, de quienes dijo fueron trasladadas a hospitales locales para su oportuna atención médica.
La titular de la Fiscalía General de la República (FGR), Ernestina Godoy, indicó que luego de los hechos ocurridos la institución a su cargo inició una investigación para conocer las causas de lo sucedido y para ello agentes de la Agencia de Investigación Criminal (AIC) se coordinan con autoridades federales y estatales para llevar a cabo las indagatorias respectivas.

En un primer comunicado, la Secretaría de Marina indicó que el CIIT señaló que “se registró un evento ferroviario” a la altura de la comunidad zapoteca Nizanda, en el municipio de Asunción Ixtaltepec, estado de Oaxaca, sobre la Línea Z, “en el que viajaban 9 integrantes de la tripulación y 241 personas pasajeras, a bordo de dos locomotoras y cuatro vagones de pasajeros”.
La Línea Z, inaugurada en 2023, recorre desde Veracruz (Atlántico) hacia Salina Cruz (Oaxaca) y cuenta con 212 kilómetros de extensión.

La presidenta de México, Claudia Sheinbaum, indicó que ha dado “instrucciones para que el secretario de Marina y el subsecretario de Derechos Humanos de la Secretaría de Gobernación se trasladen al lugar y atiendan a las familias de manera personal”.
Con esta nueva vía de comunicación interoceánica, México busca impulsar el comercio internacional al unir Asia con la costa este de Estados Unidos y Europa a través de ese paso, el punto más estrecho del país que conecta el Pacífico con el Atlántico y que busca competir con el Canal de Panamá.

At least 13 dead and 98 injured in Interoceanic train derailment in Mexico

(LPL/EN) – At least 13 people died and 98 were injured, 36 of them hospitalized and 5 in serious condition, due to the derailment of the Trans-Isthmus train, part of the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (CIIT), in southern Mexico, which connects the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, the Ministry of the Navy (Semar) reported this Sunday.
“As a result of this accident, 139 people are out of danger, 98 are injured, of whom 36 are receiving hospital medical attention and the rest have no serious injuries, and unfortunately 13 people lost their lives,” Semar said in a statement.
The agency expressed its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this unfortunate accident and reaffirmed its commitment to handling the case with the utmost responsibility, transparency, and adherence to the law, providing immediate support to those affected.

It also explained that during the search and rescue operations, it deployed a total of 360 naval personnel, 20 vehicles, 4 ground ambulances, 3 air ambulances, and a tactical drone.

Previously, the institution had reported 20 injured people, who it said were transferred to local hospitals for timely medical attention.
The head of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), Ernestina Godoy, indicated that after the events, the institution under her charge initiated an investigation to determine the causes of what happened, and for this purpose, agents of the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) are coordinating with federal and state authorities to carry out the respective investigations.

With this new interoceanic transportation route, Mexico seeks to boost international trade by connecting Asia with the East Coast of the United States and Europe through this passage, the narrowest point in the country that connects the Pacific with the Atlantic, and which aims to compete with the Panama Canal.
