Niña de 4 años se disparó accidentalmente luego que su padre dejara una pistola en la sala

(LPL) – Una niña de cuatro años se encuentra en estado crítico tras resultar herida por un aparente disparo autoinfligido la noche del domingo en una vivienda de Dyersburg, Tennessee, informaron autoridades locales.

De acuerdo con el Departamento de Policía de Dyersburg (DPD), los agentes respondieron poco antes de las 10 p.m. a un reporte de disparo que involucraba a una menor. Al llegar al domicilio, ubicado en la cuadra 300 de Hawthorne Avenue, los oficiales encontraron sangre dentro de la vivienda, pero no había nadie en el lugar.

Mientras los agentes aseguraban la casa, uno de los residentes regresó y relató que se encontraba dormido cuando su pareja lo despertó para preguntarle por su hija. El hombre dijo que al revisar, encontró a la menor recostada en un sofá y que no logró despertarla pese a varios intentos. Posteriormente llamó al 911 y a la policía, y finalmente decidió trasladar a la niña al hospital por sus propios medios.

Según la policía, el padre admitió que había dejado una pistola en la sala antes de irse a dormir y que olvidó asegurar el arma. Las autoridades indicaron que el disparo habría sido autoinfligido.

Hasta el momento no se han realizado arrestos y la investigación continúa. La menor fue reportada en condición crítica.

El jefe de la Policía de Dyersburg, Thomas Langford, calificó el hecho como “una situación terrible” y expresó sus pensamientos y oraciones para la niña y su familia. Además, subrayó la importancia de mantener todas las armas de fuego aseguradas y fuera del alcance de los niños.

A 4-year-old girl accidentally shot herself after her father left a gun in the living room

(LPL) – A four-year-old girl is in critical condition after being injured by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound Sunday night at a home in Dyersburg, Tennessee, authorities said.

According to the Dyersburg Police Department (DPD), officers responded just before 10 p.m. to a report of a shooting involving a child. When officers arrived at the residence, located in the 300 block of Hawthorne Avenue, they found blood inside the home but no one was present.

As officers were clearing the residence, one of the residents returned and told investigators that he had been asleep when his girlfriend woke him up to ask about their daughter. The man said he went to check on the child and found her lying on a couch. After several unsuccessful attempts to wake her, he called 911 and police, then decided to take her to the hospital himself.

Police said the father admitted he had left a handgun in the living room before going to bed and forgot to secure it. Authorities believe the shooting was self-inflicted.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing. The child was last reported to be in critical condition.

“This is a terrible situation,” Dyersburg Police Chief Thomas Langford said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the child and her parents. It underscores the necessity of keeping all firearms secured and out of the reach of children.”
