St. Jude nombra a Charles W.M. Roberts como su próximo presidente y CEO

(LPL) – El Hospital St. Jude anunció a Dr. Charles W.M.

St. Jude Names Charles W.M. Roberts as Its Next President and CEO

(LPL) – St. Jude Hospital has announced Dr. Charles W.M. Roberts as its next president and chief executive officer, a transition that will mark a new chapter for one of Memphis’s most renowned medical institutions.

Roberts will officially assume the role on January 1, 2027, succeeding Dr. James R. Downing. Downing announced in February that he would step down after 12 years at the helm of the hospital to transition into a faculty role.

Roberts currently serves as executive vice president of St. Jude and director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center, positions he has held since joining the institution in 2015. For more than a decade, he has overseen the growth of research and clinical programs focused on childhood cancer.

His scientific work has focused—among other fields—on cancer genetics and epigenetics, particularly the mechanisms driving the development of pediatric tumors. Under his leadership, the St. Jude cancer center received an «Exceptional» rating from the National Cancer Institute in its most recent evaluations.

Roberts noted that he is stepping into the role at a time of great opportunity, driven by technological advancements that can accelerate the discovery of new treatments and improve patient outcomes.

He also indicated that he would remain involved in scientific research while leading the hospital. His goal will be to uphold St. Jude’s mission of developing treatments and cures for serious pediatric diseases and to expand the institution’s global impact.

With this appointment, Roberts will become the seventh president and CEO of St. Jude, an institution founded in Memphis in 1962 by Danny Thomas.
