Cuatro muertos y una persona herida de gravedad tras un tiroteo masivo en New York

(LPL/CNN) – Al menos cuatro personas, incluido un policía, murieron y otra resultó herida en un tiroteo en el barrio de Manhattan en Nueva York, informó el alcalde de la ciudad Eric Adams, que agregó que el tirador también murió por lo que pareció ser un disparo que se infligió a sí mismo.

“Cinco inocentes fueron baleados esta noche. Perdimos cuatro vidas -dos hombres y dos mujeres- en otro acto de violencia con armas de fuego sin sentido, incluyendo a un oficial miembro del Departamento de Policía de la Ciudad de Nueva York”, dijo Adams en una rueda de prensa.
La persona herida se encuentra en condición crítica “luchando por su vida”, agregó.

El alcalde agregó que el tirador murió “por una aparente herida de bala autoinfligida”.

La comisionada de Policía de Nueva York, Jessica S. Tisch, dijo que el incidente comenzó alrededor de las 18:20 hora local (22:20 GMT) cuando el atacante salió de un vehículo negro que estacionó cerca de un edificio de oficinas en la zona de Midtown, al cual entró con un arma larga en el brazo.

Allí entró al lobby del edificio y disparó al oficial de Policía fallecido. Posteriormente disparó a una mujer y a un guardia de seguridad, tras lo que subió en ascensor al piso 33 y comenzó a disparar a medida que avanzaba.

“Luego, (el agresor) avanzó por un pasillo y se disparó en el pecho”, explicó Tisch.
El atacante fue identificado como Shane Devone Tamura, un joven de 27 años de edad que viajó en su propio coche desde Las Vegas hasta Nueva York, donde llegó este lunes.

Según la comisionada, el hombre “tiene antecedentes de salud mental documentados”, y agregó que todavía están tratando de aclarar los motivos del ataque.
Aparantemente, Tamura tenía una nota de suicidio en el bolsillo en la que alegaba que padecía ETC, una enfermedad cerebral relacionada con traumatismos craneoencefálicos, según una fuente. En la nota, solicitaba que le estudiaran el cerebro y escribió: “No puedes ir contra la NFL, te aplastarán”. Varias fuentes informaron a CNN que Tamura fue un jugador de fútbol americano competitivo en su juventud. La ETC se asocia comúnmente con los jugadores de fútbol americano, y los estudios demuestran que los golpes repetidos en la cabeza pueden provocar la enfermedad. En el vehículo, la Policía halló “un estuche de fusil con munición, un cargador de revólver cargado, una mochila y medicamentos recetados a Devone Tamura”.

Además, Tisch aclaró que otras cuatro personas están siendo atendidas de heridas que recibieron durante la huida.

Four dead, one seriously injured after mass shooting in New York

(LPL/CNN) – At least four people, including a police officer, were killed and another injured in a shooting in the Manhattan borough of New York City, Mayor Eric Adams said, adding that the shooter also died from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“Five innocent people were shot tonight. We lost four lives—two men and two women—in yet another senseless act of gun violence, including an officer of the New York City Police Department,” Adams said at a press conference.
The injured person is in critical condition “fighting for his life,” he added.

The mayor added that the shooter died “from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

New York City Police Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch said the incident began around 6:20 p.m. local time (10:20 p.m. GMT) when the attacker exited a black vehicle parked near a Midtown office building, entering with a long gun in his hand.

There, he entered the building’s lobby and shot the deceased police officer. He then shot a woman and a security guard, then took the elevator to the 33rd floor and began shooting as he went.

“Then, (the attacker) walked down a hallway and shot himself in the chest,” Tisch explained.
The attacker was identified as Shane Devone Tamura, a 27-year-old man who traveled in his own car from Las Vegas to New York, where he arrived on Monday.

According to the commissioner, the man “has a documented history of mental health problems,” adding that they are still trying to clarify the motive for the attack.

Tamura apparently had a suicide note in his pocket claiming he suffered from CTE, a brain disease linked to head trauma, according to a source. In the note, he requested brain studies and wrote, “You can’t go against the NFL, they’ll crush you.” Multiple sources told CNN that Tamura was a competitive football player in his youth. CTE is commonly associated with football players, and studies show that repeated blows to the head can trigger the disease. The NFL offices are located on the fifth floor of the office building Tamura attacked.

In the vehicle, police found “a rifle case with ammunition, a loaded revolver magazine, a backpack, and prescription medication for Devone Tamura.”

Tisch also clarified that four other people are being treated for injuries they received during the escape.

The deceased police officer is Didarul Islam, 36, who had three years of experience in the force, Adams said.
