Investigan el hallazgo de más de 380 cuerpos acumulados en un crematorio de Ciudad Juárez

(LPL/CNN) – El fiscal estatal de Chihuahua, César Jáuregui, informó el domingo sobre la apertura de una investigación por el hallazgo de 383 cuerpos acumulados en un crematorio en Ciudad Juárez, fronteriza con Estados Unidos.

Al menos dos personas han sido detenidas por este caso, uno de los propietarios de la empresa y un ayudante. El funcionario no reveló sus identidades ni los delitos de los que se les podría acusar.

Según expuso Jáuregui en una entrevista con el canal 44 local, el caso llegó a la Fiscalía el pasado jueves, cuando varios policías municipales atendieron un reporte sobre una posible situación irregular en el crematorio y hallaron en el patio del inmueble una carroza fúnebre con dos cuerpos, además de otros cadáveres apilados en un cuarto.

Personal de la Fiscalía verificó el hallazgo de decenas de cuerpos durante una revisión del crematorio y decidió abrir una investigación sobre estos hechos y contra la compañía que operaba el establecimiento.

De acuerdo con el fiscal, “hay 383 cuerpos, que tienen una data muy probablemente del 2020 para acá” y cree que la empresa no hacía su trabajo.

“Simplemente recogía los cuerpos, seguramente hacía la cobranza que tenía que hacer por el servicio y finalmente no lo hacía. Y acumularon los cuerpos en las instalaciones del lugar”.

El funcionario apunta que la compañía, cuyo nombre no reveló, tenía los permisos correspondientes para operar el crematorio.

CNN contactó a la Secretaría de Salud de Chihuahua para pedir más información sobre el tema y espera respuesta.

El fiscal también dijo que entre cinco y seis funerarias tenían subcontratos con el establecimiento para servicios de cremación.

Agregó que la Fiscalía dará a conocer esta semana cuáles eran esas funerarias para que las personas que hayan llevado a sus seres queridos a esos lugares puedan averiguar si sus cuerpos estuvieron entre los acumulados en el crematorio.

“(El lugar) es como una casa pequeña con cinco o seis cuartos, y ahí estaban apilados simple y sencillamente por la negligencia criminal, desde mi punto de vista, de los dueños de esta empresa”, dijo el fiscal.

También señaló que, mientras se realizan las investigaciones, los cuerpos han sido colocados en bolsas y en una habitación refrigerada.

They are investigating the discovery of more than 380 bodies accumulated in a crematorium in Ciudad Juárez

(LPL/CNN) – Chihuahua State Prosecutor César Jáuregui announced on Sunday the opening of an investigation into the discovery of 383 bodies piled up at a crematorium in Ciudad Juárez, on the border with the United States.

At least two people have been arrested in this case: one of the company’s owners and an assistant. The official did not reveal their identities or the crimes they could be charged with.

According to Jáuregui in an interview with local channel 44, the case came to the attention of the Prosecutor’s Office last Thursday, when several municipal police officers responded to a report of a possible irregular situation at the crematorium and found a hearse containing two bodies in the building’s courtyard, in addition to other corpses stacked in a room.

Prosecutor’s Office personnel verified the discovery of dozens of bodies during a search of the crematorium and decided to open an investigation into these events and against the company that operated the facility.

According to the prosecutor, “there are 383 bodies, most likely dating back to 2020,” and he believes the company was not doing its job.

“They simply collected the bodies, probably collected the payment they were supposed to for the service, and ultimately didn’t do it. And they piled up the bodies at the crematorium.”

The official points out that the company, whose name he did not reveal, had the necessary permits to operate the crematorium.

CNN contacted the Chihuahua Department of Health to request more information on the matter and is awaiting a response.

The prosecutor also said that between five and six funeral homes had subcontracts with the facility for cremation services.

He added that the Prosecutor’s Office will reveal these funeral homes this week so that people who have taken their loved ones to those places can find out if their bodies were among those piled up at the crematorium.

“(The place) is like a small house with five or six rooms, and they were piled up there simply and simply because of the criminal negligence, in my view, of the owners of this company,” the prosecutor said.

He also noted that, while the investigation is ongoing, the bodies have been placed in bags and in a refrigerated room.
